In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry is midway through both his training as a wizard and his coming of age. He wants to get away from the malicious Dursleys and go to the Quidditch World Cup with Hermione, Ron, and the Weasleys. He wants to dream about his crush, Cho Chang (and maybe do more than dream). And now that he's gotten the hang of things at Hogwartshe hopeshe just wants to be a normal fourteen-year-old wizard. But even by his standards, Harry's year is anything but normal. First Dumbledore announces the revival of a grand competition that hasn't taken place for one hundred years: the Triwizard Tournament, where a Hogwarts champion will compete against rivals from two other schools of magic in three highly dangerous tasks. Then someone frames Harry to participate in the tournamentwhich really means someone wants him dead. Harry is guided through the competition by Professor Alastor Moody, this year's Defenst Against the Dark Arts teacher, but he must also contend with a nasty reporter named Rita Skeeter, who digs up some highly unflattering secrets about Hagrid; a terrible fight with Ron, who is deeply jealous of Harry's fame; Hermione's newfound activism on behalf of house-elves; and the terrifying prospect of asking a date to the Yule Ball. Worst of all, Lord Voldemort may finally have gathered the materials necessary for his rejuvenation... and he has a faithful servant at Hogwarts waiting only for a sign. No, nothing is very normal for Harry Potter. And in his case, different can be deadly.

Juvenile Fiction.Juvenile Literature.olliebob - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a delightfully scary book. The plot twists are everywhere. The tension is everywhere. The heartbreak is everywhere. Harry starts his summer by going to the Quidditch World Cup with Hermione and the Weasley's. After the tournament, Death Eaters (Followers of Voldemort) show up. Everything is chaos. The Death Eaters are hurting people. People are fleeing. Harry, Ron, and Hermione find a safe patch of woods and sit down. Hermione relates how she saw that people have spells on their house elves so that they cannot run away. They see the Dark Mark in the sky, and Winky is blamed for it. At Hogwarts, things are just as chaotic. When Harry finds out their is to be a Triwizard Tournament held at Hogwarts for all students who are seventeen. Two other schools come, schools which are EXTREMELY intimidating. Students who want to participate can put their names into the goblet of fire. When it is time for the goblet of fire to choose who can play, Harry's name comes out, along with Cedric, Fleur, and Victor. He must compete. Harry battles dragons, saves people from mermaids, and goes through an intricate maze. He and Cedric decide to share the glory of winning the Triwizard cup. It is a portkey! When they grab it, they are transported to a graveyard where Cedric is killed, Harry battles Voldemort, and Harry's parents save him. He goes back through the portkey to Hogwarts. Harry figures out that Mad Eye Moody is not him at all. It was Bartimus Crouch Jr. He is taken to Azkaban. Voldemort has come back, but nobody believes Harry, except for Dumbledore, and Harry's friends. This is a great book, through and through. Thank you, J K Rowling for your wonderful series!.HTML:

It's the pivotal fourth novel in the seven-part saga of a young wizard's coming of age. The thickest. The juiciest yet. Harry Potter turns fourteen. But will all his friends? Rumors have persisted that one of the characters may not see the conclusion of this novel, something the author has refused either to confirm or deny. But we who love Ron, Hermione, Hagrid...even pitiful Neville Longbottom...wait anxiously to see if they will make it through safely. No one's fate is certain when Volde -- excuse me -- He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is part of the picture. What is certain is that a novel of excruciating suspense awaits, leavened by J. K. Rowling's inimitable sense of humor and the burgeoning details of her magical world. Whether it's taking a front-row seat at the International Quidditch World Cup, or meeting the new Defense-Against-the-Dark-Arts teacher, or finding out if Harry really does start a romance with Cho Chang, fans of the history-making boy-wizard will find their thirst for Hogwarts adventure slaked deliciously...at least for a little while!.

Fantasy.Juvenile Fiction.Juvenile Literature.Thriller.To call Dale a 'reader' of books is like saying Monet was a sunday painter. What's wonderful about the Harry Potter stories is the believability of the world Harry and company inhabit, imagined by J.K. Rowling and fully realized through Jim Dale's portrayal. At first, we were as awed as Harry to learn about the wonders of the magical world; now we're as comfortable with what has become familiar. Dale fosters this expectation, bringing his symphony of voices back to each book even as he's adding more. There's an epic game of Quidditch, brought brilliantly into play as Dale narrates spectators and announcer alike, but overall, this is a darker adventure. As the Tri-Wizard Tournament unfolds, innocence gives way to knowledge and experience, trust is betrayed, and there's as much horror as hilarity. (Some gruesome events near the conclusion might be frightening for younger listeners.) Harry's growing up, and, with this installment, he's firmly on course to his destiny. Fourth book in the series. Harry Potter is back and this time the magic gets out of hand! First, imagine if you will, the sleepy but mysterious village of Little Hangleton, and what happened at the Riddle House. No, the Riddle House is not a place for riddles, but a home where the family died of fright. The man accused of murdering them was eventually released, but when he returns to the Riddle House, he overhears a curious conversation between someone named Wormtail and a terrible, dark presence by the name of Lord Voldemort -- oh, so sorry He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Volde... (oops, almost said it again) He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is one of the most powerful Dark wizards -- and he wants Harry Potter. When Harry wakes from a particularly vivid dream, the scar on his forehead throbs, and he knows something is up. Harry's been living in a dreadful house on Privet Drive with his Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and greedy cousin, Dudley. They won't even let him do any wizardry --you know Muggles, how they can't really handle that kind of stuff. Harry's uncle and aunt like to let the neighbors think that Harry goes to St. Brutus's Secure Center for Incurably Criminal Boys rather than to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He has to hide his magic -- and even broomsticks aren't a suitable topic of conversation in the Dursley household. But everything is about to change for Harry, beginning with this particular summer vacation. It starts with a letter from Mrs. Weasley, Harry's friend Ron's mother. She invites him to come spend the rest of the summer with the Weasleys and to gosee the Quidditch World Cup. Quidditch is Harry's favorite sport in the world, and it isn't often that the Quidditch World Cup is in Britain. Fasterthan you can say "Hogwarts," Harry travels by fire to the Burrow, and the dark and threatening adventure begins. On the way, Harry discovers that his interest in girls is becoming more nerve-wracking --how is a young wizard to ask a girl to the Yule Ball? And what of the Goblet of Fire itself? And the Triwizard Tournament? And then, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named might be seeking Harry out even now!

Theme music composed by James Hannigan.

- Description
- Harry Potter is midway through his training as a wizard and his coming of age. Harry wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup with Hermione, Ron, and the Weasleys. He wants to dream about Cho Chang, his crush (and maybe do more than dream). He wants to find out about the mysterious event that's supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn't happened for hundreds of years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. But unfortunately for Harry Potter, he's not normal - even by wizarding standards.
And in his case, different can be deadly.
